Well, it`s time for questions. Let`s talk about the questions.
Another Game 7 exit left Toronto Maple Leafs fans frustrated and disappointed, but also brought up a lot of questions. Fans are wondering about potential prospects, free agency targets, and of course, the most fantastic scenario – Connor McDavid`s potential return to his home province one summer from now.
So, let`s delve into the mailbag and address some of the topics rattling around the collective mind of Leafs Nation early this offseason.
Thank you, as always, for reading.
A question from Colton: Is it possible the Leafs could sign Brad Marchand in free agency? He seems like a cultural fit and was a Leafs fan growing up. Is there a likelihood he`d come to Toronto, or will he stay in Florida or Boston?
Anything is possible, Colton. But this scenario seems unlikely.
Not that the Maple Leafs couldn`t use another dedicated player, and I agree Marchand could bring the needed energy and character to the team. He thrives in the spotlight, whether with Boston or on the international stage with Team Canada.
Furthermore, Marchand would be an ideal fit for the second-line left-wing position, a spot that saw various players last season but none managed to solidify the role.
He is effective on the penalty kill, makes smart plays on the power play, and has good offensive instincts. In the 2024-25 season, he recorded 51 points, ranking ninth among potential unrestricted free agents.
He`s a true leader and a great teammate.
He`s engaging to interview, and he`s smart.
And importantly, at age 37, he will be looking for a contract commensurate with his skill level.
