Tom Aspinall, a top heavyweight contender, seems to have run out of words to describe Jon Jones, simply calling him “strange.”
Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champion, has been eager to fight Jones, the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, to unify the titles. Aspinall boasts an impressive 8-1 UFC record and has already defended his interim belt. Jones, a former light heavyweight champion, won the heavyweight title in March 2023 against Ciryl Gane and then defeated Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
A fight between Aspinall and Jones would be logical, but Jones has publicly dismissed the matchup, claiming Aspinall is not a deserving opponent.
Despite the uncertainty, Aspinall recently expressed optimism about the UFC`s plans for him, whether they involve Jones or not. In a lighthearted word association segment, when asked about Jones, Aspinall simply said, “Strange guy.”
This brief comment is typical of Aspinall`s restrained approach to trash talk against Jones, though he and his fans have previously labeled Jones a “duck” for avoiding the fight. Jones himself has even playfully adopted the “duck” label.
Ultimately, the decision to make the Aspinall vs. Jones fight happen rests with Jones.
