Devin Haney returned to the boxing ring with a win, though his reputation may have suffered as a result.
In his first bout since the controversial contest with Ryan Garcia in April 2024, Haney secured a unanimous decision after a widely criticized 12 rounds of minimal action held in New York`s Times Square. Haney spent much of the fight circling and avoiding engagement, throwing very few impactful punches. Fortunately for him, his opponent, Jose Ramirez, was even less effective, leading to Haney winning clearly on the scorecards (119-109, 119-109, 118-110).
This performance was not the triumphant return that many of Haney`s followers anticipated. The 26-year-old aimed to rebound from the Garcia fight, which marked his initial loss via majority decision before the result was overturned due to Garcia`s failed drug test.
Twelve months later, the online reaction suggests Haney`s showing did little to build excitement for a potential rematch. Fellow fighters were particularly harsh, lambasting Haney`s performance, with some humorously suggesting they deserved compensation for having watched the unengaging match.
