Thatcher Demko wants to continue playing for the Vancouver Canucks.
The goaltender, who is eligible for a contract extension this off-season, stated on Friday during the team`s end-of-season media availability that he is optimistic about reaching a new agreement.
“Since day one, I`ve always envisioned myself as a Canuck. I want to remain here. Being drafted by Vancouver, it`s clear that I`d like to finalize an extension and continue my career here,” Demko explained.
Demko, aged 29, has one year remaining on his current five-year, $25 million contract, which he signed before the 2021-22 season.
This past season, he participated in just 23 games due to injury, achieving a 10-8-3 record with a save percentage of .889 and a goals-against average of 2.90.
Demko`s season debut was delayed until December 10 because of an unusual knee injury that prevented him from training in the off-season.
Throughout his career, the San Diego native has played 242 games for the Canucks, amassing 126 wins and maintaining a .910 save percentage.
