Supermum Tatjana Maria`s victory at Queen`s has led to speculation she could be a contender for Wimbledon. She is the first player to win the Queen`s title since it was last held in 1973.
The 37-year-old German qualifier achieved a sensational win in the women`s singles final, a tournament returning after a 52-year hiatus. She defeated American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-4 at the Baron`s Court club.

After the match, the 23-year-old Anisimova graciously praised Maria, saying, “Tatjana, what an incredible week. So special. Congrats to you and your beautiful family. I wouldn’t be surprised if I see you in the Wimbledon final as you really had me running out there.”
Maria is now the oldest player to win a WTA title since Serena Williams secured a victory in Auckland in 2020 at the age of 38.
The German, known for her slice shots, was considered a major underdog, entering the tournament with odds of 160/1 after successfully navigating the qualifying rounds.

Maria, a mother of two young daughters, had previously reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2022. Reflecting on her win, she said, “I enjoyed every second here. A pleasure to play here.” She also paid tribute to her family, stating, “It’s Father’s Day and my husband is really, really special. An amazing husband and coach. To our beautiful girls, I love you both.” Sharing a sweet anecdote, she added, “When we arrived, my little daughter said: ‘Wow, that’s a nice trophy, so big.’ I said: “Let’s go for the trophy.’ We will celebrate. Whatever it is, I guess they’ll want to eat some nutella.”

Maria`s path to the final was challenging, including victories over notable opponents such as former Grand Slam finalists or champions Leylah Fernandez, Karolina Muchova, Elena Rybakina, and Madison Keys.
In a difficult second-round match against Muchova, Maria faced a significant deficit, trailing 7-6, 5-4, 30-0, but managed to fight back and win.
