In Edmonton, Stuart Skinner is set to return as the starting goaltender for Game 3 tonight. This decision comes after fellow netminder Calvin Pickard was injured in Game 2 and is currently listed as “day to day.”
This marks Skinner`s first start since the second game of the initial series against Los Angeles. Following that game, Pickard took over in net, and the Oilers subsequently embarked on their current winning streak of six games.
Skinner commented on the situation, acknowledging Pickard`s injury isn`t ideal:
“It`s not the situation that we probably want to be in,” said Skinner, referring to the Pickard injury, “but that`s playoffs. You need two goalies to go all the way.”
Skinner added that he is “excited to go back into the net,” having used the time off to “work on some things” and feels “ready to go.”
Skinner was the primary goalie during the regular season, starting 50 games compared to Pickard`s 31. This makes his return at this moment somewhat unusual, as the team is on its most successful stretch of the season, a run he hasn`t been part of until now.
