Shi Ming made a significant impact in front of her home fans on Friday night, concluding the second day of Road to UFC Season 5 with an impressive first-round submission win against India’s Puja Tomar. The special main event, held at the Galaxy Arena in Macau, saw Ming quickly neutralize Tomar’s striking, bringing the fight to the ground where she established control and pursued a decisive finish.
Ming strategically set up an arm-triangle choke. After advancing to side control, she tightened the hold, forcing Tomar to tap out at 3:12 of the first round.
This victory follows Ming’s win of the Road to UFC Season 3 tournament and her subsequent UFC contract, earned via a memorable head-kick knockout of Feng Xiaocan in November 2024. Despite a recent loss to Bruna Brasil last August, the doctor-turned-fighter achieved her first UFC victory on Chinese soil.
The win elevates Shi Ming’s professional MMA record to 18 wins and 6 losses, marking her seventh career submission victory. She now holds a 1-1 record within the UFC.
For Puja Tomar, this loss continues a challenging period in the promotion. “The Cyclone” has now suffered consecutive submission defeats, following her loss to Shauna Bannon. Her UFC record now stands at 1-2, with her overall professional record at 9-6.
