The San Jose Sharks are adding a player returning from the KHL.
The team announced Monday that San Jose has signed forward Egor Afanasyev to a one-year contract worth $800,000. He spent the 2024-25 season with CSKA Moscow in the KHL.
Sharks general manager Mike Grier stated, “Egor adds a mix of size and skill to our forwards. We are enthusiastic about bringing him into our organization as he continues developing his game in North America.”
Afanasyev returned to the KHL for the 2024-25 season after spending three years within the Nashville Predators organization, playing at both the NHL and AHL levels.
Over two seasons, the Russian winger appeared in 19 NHL games, recording one goal, a minus-8 rating, and averaging 11:04 of ice time.
He achieved success in the AHL during the 2023-24 season with the Milwaukee Admirals, accumulating 27 goals and 27 assists in 56 regular-season contests.
Last season with CSKA Moscow, Afanasyev posted seven goals and 14 assists across 53 games.
The Predators originally drafted him 45th overall in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
He played the 2019-20 season with the OHL`s Windsor Spitfires before being loaned to CSKA Moscow for the 2020-21 campaign.
The Sharks acquired the 24-year-old from the Predators in June 2024 in exchange for forward Ozzy Wiesblatt.
