The Ottawa Senators have announced a two-year contract extension for defenceman Tyler Kleven. The agreement is valued at $3.2 million and carries an annual salary cap hit of $1.6 million. Kleven was slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Kleven, a 23-year-old native of Fargo, North Dakota, posted 10 points, consisting of four goals and six assists, over 79 games during the recent regular season. He averaged 14 minutes and 28 seconds of ice time per game.
He also participated in all six playoff contests in the first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, contributing two assists.
“Tyler continued to elevate his game in his first NHL season, which was a good sign,” stated General Manager Steve Staios in a team release. “We expect his game will continue to develop.”
The Senators originally selected Kleven in the second round, 44th overall, in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He has accumulated a total of 13 points (four goals and nine assists) across 96 career NHL games over three seasons with Ottawa.
