Ottawa Senators defenseman Nick Jensen is dealing with lingering effects after helping the team reach the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2018.
Speaking at the Senators` annual charity golf tournament on Friday, General Manager Steve Staios confirmed earlier reports that Jensen had undergone hip surgery.
Last season, Jensen played 71 regular-season games for the Senators, recording 21 points (3 goals, 18 assists) and finishing with a plus-18 rating.
Staios did not provide specific details about the injury or the surgery but stated that there is currently no timeline for Jensen`s return.
According to a report from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, Jensen considered his options and decided surgery was the best course of action.
The 34-year-old blueliner was a key player for Ottawa during the 2024-25 season, ranking eighth on the team in average ice time (20:13) and fifth in blocked shots (95).
Despite appearing to be affected by the injury during the playoffs, Jensen played in all six games of the Senators` first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, ranking fifth in average ice time (20:56) and eighth in blocked shots (4) in that series. He did not record any points in the playoffs.
“Nick is an absolute warrior,” Staios commented last month during the team`s season-ending media availability. “To be able to continue to perform at the level he did with the injury he was dealing with, it’s the character of the individual.”
