OTTAWA — Thursday’s defeat at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche was a painful reminder for Ottawa Senators fans of past struggles they hoped were behind them.
Poorly timed goals, defensive zone breakdowns, and underperformance in a crucial game.
There are many ways to describe a season’s low point. But sometimes, the manner of defeat is more telling than the loss itself.
“There are definitely areas we need to address and improve,” said Brady Tkachuk after the game. “However, at this stage of the season, there’s no need to panic.”
He has a point. It was just one bad game. Yet, Thursday’s 5-1 loss does little to calm the nerves of a fanbase eager to end a long playoff drought.
This season, the Senators’ performance has been inconsistent. Ottawa has experienced three winning streaks and three losing streaks of five or more games. Following a loss to Montreal in their previous match, it is crucial for the Senators to prevent this losing streak from extending beyond two games.
