OTTAWA — Goalie Linus Ullmark was the star of the night, making 32 saves as the Ottawa Senators edged out the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 2-1 victory on Thursday. This win prevents the Lightning from immediately securing a playoff berth.

The Lightning`s playoff spot would be confirmed if Colorado triumphs over Columbus later on Thursday.

Shane Pinto broke the ice for Ottawa, scoring in the first period with 6:15 remaining. Jake Sanderson extended the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 5:17 in the second period. Tampa Bay responded when Brandon Hagel scored his 34th goal of the season at the seven-minute mark of the second period, narrowing the gap.

Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay`s goalie, stopped 17 shots during the game. The Lightning were playing the second game of a four-game road trip and entered the game on a four-game winning streak.

Looking Ahead

The Lightning will face Buffalo on Saturday night. The Senators are set to host Florida on Saturday and then Columbus on Sunday night.
