Lindy Ruff, the head coach for the Buffalo Sabres, didn`t hold back his disappointment after his team`s recent loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. A season of struggles in Buffalo appears to be weighing heavily on the coach.
Following Saturday`s 7-4 loss to Philadelphia, Ruff voiced his strong disapproval of the Sabres` play.
“They completely disrespected the game,” Ruff stated, referring to his team`s performance. “It was like `Christmas hockey` out there. We practically gifted them the first three goals. You simply can`t expect to win on the road playing like that, and our away game performance has been a key focus for us. We showed a lack of discipline and attention to detail, especially in managing the puck early on, which really cost us.”
Despite a high-scoring, back-and-forth game, the Sabres managed to narrow the score to 6-4 in the third period with a short-handed goal from Alex Tuch at 15:05.
However, any momentum was quickly extinguished as the Flyers responded just 29 seconds later. Ryan Poehling scored his ninth goal of the season, effectively sealing the victory for Philadelphia.
“The penalty we took at the end was unacceptable, especially when we were trying to get back into the game,” Ruff commented. “We took a risk on the penalty kill and managed to score a short-handed goal, and they tried to do the same, but ultimately, it eliminated our chance for a late comeback.”
