Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick, flyweight contenders, are scheduled to compete at an upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Atlanta on June 14.
Sources familiar with the UFC`s plans confirmed this information to MMA media outlets after Maverick initially announced the fight on social media.
Maverick expressed her respect for Namajunas, stating, “Rose Namajunas has been an inspiration to many women in MMA, including myself. I`ve watched her fights and trained with her. We`ve trained together for years, mostly at different gyms.
“Now it`s time to compete in front of the world and then continue to help each other improve. I`m honored to share the octagon with such a great person and fighter, and I`m ready to prove my place in the division!”
Maverick, considered a promising talent in the flyweight division, experienced some inconsistencies early in her UFC career but has since achieved four consecutive victories. In her last fight, she defeated Jamey-Lyn Horth in December. She now faces a significant challenge in Namajunas.
Namajunas, recognized as one of the greatest strawweight fighters ever, has had a mixed record since moving to flyweight, despite facing top-level opponents. Her flyweight record currently stands at 2-2, with losses against top contenders Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot by decision.
She aims to return to the win column against Maverick in June at the UFC Fight Night event planned for Atlanta.
