Morgan Rielly etched his name into the Toronto Maple Leafs record books on Monday.

With a goal scored late in the first period of Game 1 against the Florida Panthers, Rielly established a new Maple Leafs franchise record for playoff goals by a defenceman.

This goal marked Rielly`s 14th career post-season goal with Toronto, surpassing the previous franchise high shared with Ian Turnbull. Borje Salming holds the third position on this historical list with 12 playoff goals.

Game 1 was also Rielly`s 64th career game played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, all of which have been with the Leafs.

In Toronto`s recent six-game series victory over the Ottawa Senators in Round 1, the 31-year-old defenceman contributed two goals and one assist.

Rielly was originally selected by the Maple Leafs as the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
