Real Madrid is evaluating the consequences of a season without any trophies, with their prospects in La Liga looking bleak. This situation could significantly impact some members of their squad as the club plans for reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.
The managerial future of Alvaro Arbeloa is yet to be decided, but several players are also facing the possibility of being sold. Dani Ceballos and David Alaba appear likely to depart, and Raul Asencio could be another name on that list.
Raul Asencio’s Potential Departure from Real Madrid
According to The Athletic, Asencio is considered a transferrable asset this summer. The 23-year-old was promoted to the senior squad last season and at times secured a starting position, but his influence has waned recently. Asencio signed a new contract until 2031, consistently stating his ambition to succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Asencio’s Falling Out with Alvaro Arbeloa
One of the reasons for his diminished role is a disagreement with Arbeloa. Asencio’s exclusion from Real Madrid’s trip to Munich this week, officially due to illness despite training normally, came as a surprise. Before the match against Girona, Asencio had missed the previous five games, and was not part of the squad for three of those. He was also fit to play in the games missed in March.
Arbeloa was reportedly displeased when he was compelled to utilize Antonio Rudiger due to a last-minute injury and did not include Asencio in the matchday squad again until the defender had apologized to his teammates. If Arbeloa remains at the club beyond the summer, the strained relationship between him and Asencio could affect the player’s chances of staying. Furthermore, Castilla center-backs Diego Aguado and Joan Martinez are also being considered for future first-team involvement.
