Edmonton Oilers fans might see their captain, Connor McDavid, back on the ice soon.
According to reports, McDavid is scheduled to participate in the pre-game skate before Wednesday`s matchup against the St. Louis Blues. Following the skate, a final decision will be made regarding his participation in the game.
The Oilers` star player has been absent since March 20th, after sustaining an injury in a game against the Winnipeg Jets.
His potential return comes at a crucial time for Edmonton. If the Oilers defeat the Blues and the Calgary Flames lose to Anaheim in regulation time, the Oilers will secure a playoff berth on Wednesday.
However, even if McDavid returns to the lineup, the Oilers will still be missing key players against the Blues. Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are both unavailable for the game.
Draisaitl is still recovering from an injury from April 3rd, while Nugent-Hopkins is sidelined due to illness.
As they head into Wednesday`s game, the Oilers are currently four points behind the Los Angeles Kings in the Pacific Division standings for second place.
