The Professional Fighters League`s 2025 season has encountered an early setback.
Magomed Umalatov, a leading welterweight contender with a record of 17-1, has been withdrawn from the PFL 1 event and the entire welterweight tournament. This decision comes after Umalatov failed to make weight on Wednesday, as announced by the league. Umalatov, who was the runner-up in the 2024 welterweight tournament losing to Shamil Musaev, was originally scheduled to compete against Logan Storley (16-3) at the event in Orlando on Thursday.
As a result of Umalatov`s removal, Logan Storley will now face Joseph Luciano (9-2). Luciano was previously set to fight Sarek Shields on the preliminary card. It remains unclear whether Umalatov will participate in a non-tournament fight later in the season.
All other participants in the welterweight tournament successfully made weight. This includes former Bellator champions Jason Jackson and Andrey Koreshkov, who are set to face each other in the opening round.
The event also marks the beginning of the featherweight tournament. The tournament features the return of Movlid Khaybulaev, the undefeated 2021 league champion, who will fight Jeremy Kennedy. Additionally, the 2023 champion Jesus Pinedo is scheduled to compete against Adam Borics.
