Florida Panthers forward Jesse Puljujarvi may be facing disciplinary action from the NHL.
The NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday that Puljujarvi will have a hearing on Thursday to discuss his illegal check to the head of Tampa Bay Lightning`s Mitchell Chaffee.
During Tuesday`s game, Puljujarvi hit Chaffee in the head with his shoulder in the third period. This resulted in Puljujarvi receiving a match penalty and being ejected from the game.
Chaffee was unable to continue playing after the hit and his availability for the Lightning`s final regular-season game on Thursday is uncertain.
Puljujarvi has played five games for the Panthers after joining them on an AHL professional tryout in February. Before joining the Panthers, he played 26 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this season before his contract was terminated.
This season, the former Edmonton Oiler has scored one goal with the Panthers, adding to the three goals and six points he recorded with the Penguins.
The Panthers and Lightning are scheduled to play against each other in the first round of the upcoming playoffs.
