Sports news » Panthers’ Niko Mikkola Fined for Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Florida Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola has been fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct. This is the maximum penalty allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The fine stems from an incident in a game against the Montreal Canadiens. Following the conclusion of Sunday`s game, which saw the Canadiens defeat the Panthers 4-2, Mikkola shot a puck towards the Canadiens` net. The Department of Player Safety reviewed the incident and determined Mikkola`s actions to be unsportsmanlike.

The Montreal Canadiens players reacted strongly to Mikkola`s shot, leading to a scrum on the ice. However, Mikkola was the only player to receive supplemental discipline from the league.

The Panthers and Canadiens are scheduled to play each other again on Tuesday.
