In Sunrise, Florida, Joseph Woll did his best to keep the Maple Leafs competitive.
Toronto`s goaltender was under constant pressure, making numerous athletic saves to thwart the Panthers` continuous attack.
However, his teammates failed to perform at the same high level.
Woll managed to stop 35 out of 37 shots faced on Sunday, but it was not enough as Toronto suffered a 2-0 loss to Florida. This result leveled the teams` second-round playoff series at two games apiece.
Having lost 5-4 in overtime just two nights prior, the Maple Leafs had another chance to put the reigning Stanley Cup champions in a precarious position. Instead, they were largely outplayed for most of the contest, with their goaltender being the clear exception.
Toronto captain Auston Matthews acknowledged Woll`s strong play, stating, “He was great. [He] helped keep it a 1-0 game there for the most part on some plays that we can`t let happen.”
