Paige VanZant Gets Power Slap Title Shot During International Fight Week

Sports news » Paige VanZant Gets Power Slap Title Shot During International Fight Week

Paige VanZant is set to realize her goal. The veteran of the UFC and BKFC is slated to compete in the first-ever women’s title bout in Power Slap history. Her return to action is scheduled for June 27 during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

VanZant will face Mikael-Michelle Brown in a highly anticipated rematch. This contest will crown the inaugural Power Slap women’s flyweight champion. The event is scheduled to take place at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, just one day before UFC 317 happens at T-Mobile Arena.

In their initial meeting, VanZant secured a dominant victory, winning with 30-27 scorecards from all judges. Following that performance, she immediately called for a shot at the Power Slap title.

After her win, VanZant directly addressed Dana White, stating, “Hey Dana, where’s that [125-pound] belt, baby? Put me on the next card. Let’s get some women’s belts. We’re here to stay. We’re here to knock bitches out and slap people all day.”

VanZant’s transition to Power Slap was somewhat unexpected given her extensive background in traditional combat sports with the UFC and bare-knuckle boxing with BKFC. Her Power Slap journey began with a victory, but her second bout resulted in a draw due to an illegal strike by her opponent.

She bounced back with another win in her third Power Slap match in March, which is when she vocally requested a future title opportunity.

Now, the 31-year-old fighter has earned her chance to add a championship belt to her record, with the historic Power Slap title fight officially booked for June.
