Sports news » Ottawa Senators Blank Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0 in Game 5

The Ottawa Senators demonstrated resilience in the Battle of Ontario, refusing to be eliminated from the playoffs.

Goaltender Linus Ullmark delivered a standout performance, making 29 saves to secure the first playoff shutout of his career. His effort was key as Ottawa defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0 on Tuesday, narrowing Toronto`s lead in the first-round series to 3-2.

Ottawa established a 2-0 lead with goals from Thomas Chabot and Dylan Cozens. Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk later added empty-net goals to seal the victory. Both Tkachuk and Stutzle had impressive nights, contributing two assists each to finish with three points apiece. This win means Ottawa has successfully avoided elimination in two consecutive games, following their 4-3 overtime win in Game 4 at home.

For the Maple Leafs, goaltender Anthony Stolarz stopped 15 shots.

Historically, only four teams in NHL history have managed to come back and win a series after trailing 3-0: the 1942 Maple Leafs, the 1975 Islanders, the 2010 Flyers, and the 2014 Kings.

The series will now return to Ottawa for Game 6, scheduled for Thursday at the Canadian Tire Centre.
