Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch had previously stated he anticipated needing goaltender Stuart Skinner at some stage during the postseason.
Calvin Pickard`s health issue necessitated this change for Saturday`s Game 3 in the second-round playoff matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Oilers currently hold a 2-0 series lead.
Prior to the game, Knoblauch announced that Pickard`s condition is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
During Game 2 in Las Vegas, Pickard seemed to be in discomfort and was observed shaking his left leg after Vegas forward Tomas Hertl fell onto his left pad.
Despite the incident, Pickard completed the 5-4 overtime victory, making a total of 28 saves, including all seven in the extra frame. His teammates praised him for being a key factor in the Oilers returning to Rogers Place with a two-game advantage.
However, Pickard did not take part in Saturday`s pre-game skate.
