Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner exited Wednesday`s game against the Dallas Stars after Mikko Rantanen inadvertently hit Skinner`s head with his knee while skating by.

The Edmonton Oilers may be without their starting goalie for some time.

The netminder`s game was cut short on Wednesday after being struck in the head by the knee of Dallas Stars winger Mikko Rantanen.

With a shot going high, Skinner leaped to deflect the puck with his shoulder. As he came down and moved forward out of the crease, he made contact with Rantanen’s knee as the winger skated past. It appeared to be accidental.

Skinner stayed on the ice for a moment and was attended to by the Oilers` training staff.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters after the game that he does not anticipate Skinner travelling with the team for their upcoming away game in Seattle.

Before the incident, Skinner had allowed four goals on 21 shots through 46:34 of play. He was seen visibly irritated earlier in the game, hitting his stick repeatedly into the Oilers bench during a TV timeout.

Skinner, 26, entered Wednesday`s matchup with a 24-17-4 record, 2.87 goals-against average and .895 save percentage across 48 games.

Backup Calvin Pickard replaced him in Edmonton`s net.
