The Edmonton Oilers may receive veteran assistance on their defence for Game 2 against the Los Angeles Kings in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch announced Tuesday that defenseman John Klingberg, sidelined since March 27, is a `very good possibility` to return for Wednesday`s game.
The 32-year-old defenseman has appeared in only 11 games for the Oilers since joining in January, recording one goal and 11 points. His absence has been due to a lower-body injury; he also had hip surgery in 2023.
Knoblauch also declined to name a starting goalie for Game 2.
Stuart Skinner had a tough start in the series opener, allowing six goals on 30 shots, including Philip Danault`s game-winner scored in the final minute.
In 51 regular-season games, Skinner posted an .896 save percentage and 2.81 goals against average — his worst numbers in both categories since his rookie year.
Backup Calvin Pickard has limited playoff experience, appearing in just three games for the Oilers during their playoff run last year, where he posted a .915 save percentage and 2.21 goals against average.
