The Edmonton Oilers could receive a significant defensive boost if they successfully navigate past the Vegas Golden Knights.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch informed reporters on Tuesday that defenceman Mattias Ekholm might be available to play for the Oilers should they reach the Western Conference Final.
Ekholm has been sidelined since April 11th due to an unspecified injury. The 34-year-old had returned to the lineup that evening after missing seven games but played only three shifts before having to leave the ice again.
“Mattias has been on the ice for light skating sessions,” Knoblauch commented. His Oilers team currently holds a 3-1 lead over the Golden Knights in the ongoing series. Knoblauch further stated, “He will not be participating in this current series. We are optimistic he can join us for the next series, should we be fortunate enough to advance to that stage.”
