Sports news » Oilers Goalie Pickard’s Injury Status Remains Day-to-Day

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard continues to be sidelined due to an injury as the team looks to secure a series victory against the Vegas Golden Knights in their second-round playoff matchup.

Pickard was absent from the morning skate practice held on Wednesday in Las Vegas ahead of Game 5. Head coach Kris Knoblauch provided an update, stating that Pickard is still considered “day-to-day.”

The 33-year-old netminder sustained his injury during Game 2 on May 8. The incident occurred in the third period when Golden Knights forward Tomas Hertl fell onto Pickard`s left leg. Although Pickard was able to finish that game, he has not participated in any games since.

Prior to his injury, Pickard had taken over as the starting goalie for Edmonton beginning in Game 3 of their first-round series against the L.A. Kings. He was instrumental in leading the Oilers to six consecutive wins as the starter.

Stuart Skinner, the team`s regular-season starting goaltender, has played in the last two games. This includes a decisive 3-0 shutout victory in Game 4 on Monday, which gave Edmonton a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Coach Knoblauch indicated there would be no roster changes for Game 5, emphasizing the necessity for the entire team to contribute as they progress through the playoffs.
