San Jose, California — Leon Draisaitl, the NHL`s top goal scorer, was forced to leave the Edmonton Oilers` game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. He exited in the second period due to an undisclosed injury and did not return to the game.
Draisaitl seemed to get injured midway through the second period. He was seen skating carefully to the bench before heading to the locker room. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch mentioned after the game that there was no immediate update on the seriousness of his injury.
Shortly after Draisaitl`s departure, Jeff Skinner scored the decisive goal. This goal secured a 3-2 win for the Oilers over the Sharks. The victory keeps Edmonton close to Los Angeles in the Pacific Division standings as they compete for second place and home-ice advantage in the first playoff round.
“We`ve unfortunately had some injuries to key players,” Skinner commented. “This situation creates opportunities for other players to step up, and I believe the team has been doing a good job so far. We need to maintain this level and continue to work together to achieve the results we want.”
