Watch as the Edmonton Oilers continue their first-period dominance against the Dallas Stars in Game 5, as Corey Perry knocks home a feed from Connor McDavid to break the ice yet again for Edmonton.
It seems Connor McDavid is always pursuing an NHL record.
The Edmonton Oilers captain recently achieved another milestone on Thursday, becoming the second-quickest player in National Hockey League history to record 100 assists in the playoffs. Only fellow Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky reached the mark faster.
McDavid accomplished this in merely 90 playoff games. Gretzky needed just 70 games, while the third-fastest player, Doug Gilmour, took 125 postseason games to reach 100 assists.
McDavid earned his 100th playoff assist on the first goal scored by the Oilers in Game 5 versus the Dallas Stars. The goal was a sharp shot by Corey Perry, making Perry only the second player in NHL history aged 40 or older to score in consecutive Conference Final games.
Across the league`s history, 25 players have now amassed 100 or more playoff assists, including current players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Nikita Kucherov.
Adam Oates, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and Jari Kurri are among the other players who reached this milestone in relatively few games.
McDavid and Perry weren`t the only Oilers achieving notable feats on Thursday. Jeff Skinner scored his first career playoff goal, ending the longest streak in NHL history (373 regular-season goals) without a postseason goal. Skinner`s goal was the Oilers` third of the game.
