NEW YORK — Dylan Strome delivered a stellar performance, scoring three goals to lead the Washington Capitals to a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
Strome`s hat trick was the third of his NHL career. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren was crucial for Washington, stopping 33 shots as the Capitals snapped a two-game losing streak.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau managed to score for New York in the third period, while Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin also had a busy night, making 33 saves.
The loss marks the fourth in the last five games for the Islanders. They are set to conclude their season at Columbus on Thursday and will not be participating in the playoffs for the second time in the past four seasons.
On the other hand, the Capitals are gearing up for the playoffs after clinching the Metropolitan Division title.
Strome completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal at 18:49 in the third period, sealing the Capitals` win.
