Tension is escalating as the first round of the playoffs progresses.

The NHL reached out to the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues regarding a pre-game incident between Mark Scheifele and Joel Hofer during warmups before Game 3 on Thursday.

Scheifele and Hofer were the last players remaining on the ice during warmups and engaged in a brief standoff. Hofer, a native of Winnipeg, eventually left the ice after Scheifele.

The incident drew boos from the crowd in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Blues later won Game 3 by a score of 7-2, reducing their series deficit to 2-1.

This wasn`t the only pre-game incident the league addressed on Thursday. The NHL is also looking into an event where Ottawa`s Nick Cousins reportedly shot a puck towards Toronto goalie Anthony Stolarz.

Winnipeg and St. Louis are scheduled to play Game 4 on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
