Montreal welcomes a new player who will be wearing the number 76.
Canadiens forward Zack Bolduc, recently acquired by the team, is set to wear the jersey number famously associated with former fan favourite P.K. Subban.
Bolduc was traded to Montreal on Tuesday as part of a deal with St. Louis, which saw the Canadiens send defenceman Logan Mailloux the other way.
His choice of No. 76 makes him just the third player in the long history of the Canadiens franchise to sport that number. The only others were Jozef Balej, who wore it in 2004, and Subban.
Subban was the most recent player to wear 76 for the Habs, playing with the team from 2010 to 2016.
The 22-year-old Bolduc, who grew up in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, was a lifelong supporter of the Canadiens and described experiencing mixed emotions when he was informed of the trade.
“When he [Doug Armstrong] said he`d traded me to the Canadiens, I was a bit shocked,” Bolduc commented via Zoom on Tuesday. “Super excited, but shocked, because to be honest, it`s a childhood dream.”
Given that Bolduc`s professional career began in 2019, watching P.K. Subban wear No. 76 for his hometown team likely played a significant role in that childhood dream.
