A late addition has been made to the upcoming UFC 316 event. The promotion announced on Monday the booking of a lightweight fight pitting MarQuel Mederos against promotional newcomer Mark Choinski.
This bout is scheduled for the preliminary portion of the pay-per-view card, which is set to take place this Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Mederos (10-1) was recently scheduled to compete at UFC Vegas 107 but was forced to withdraw from his fight against Bolaji Oki due to illness. Despite the short turnaround, he is cleared to return just a week later. Mederos aims to maintain his perfect 2-0 record within the UFC, having previously secured decision victories over Austin Hubbard and Landon Quinones.
Choinski (8-0) comes into the UFC with an undefeated professional record. His most recent fight was under the Anthony Pettis FC banner, where he secured a submission win over John Ramirez. Choinski was originally slated for an APFC bout on June 15 but has been pulled to make his promotional debut this Saturday.
UFC 316 is headlined by a highly anticipated men`s bantamweight championship rematch between reigning champion Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. The co-main event features a women`s bantamweight title fight where two-time champion Julianna Peña returns to face the debut of Kayla Harrison in the division.
