Two prominent hockey players from Nova Scotia are set to play for Canada internationally.

Team Canada recently announced the addition of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby to their roster for the upcoming world championship tournament in Sweden.

It has also been reported that Nathan MacKinnon will join his fellow Nova Scotian and long-time friend.

According to a report by Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, MacKinnon`s agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed that the Colorado Avalanche star will be playing for Canada.

Crosby and MacKinnon, who are neighbors in Halifax, Nova Scotia, previously played together at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, where they helped Canada win gold.

This marks MacKinnon`s first appearance at the world championship since 2017. Crosby`s last participation was in 2015.

MacKinnon`s NHL season recently concluded in disappointment when his Colorado Avalanche were eliminated by the Dallas Stars in a dramatic Game 7 comeback victory.

“I`m just in shock, to be honest with you,” MacKinnon commented after his team`s elimination.

Meanwhile, Crosby`s Pittsburgh Penguins did not qualify for the playoffs this season.

With their respective NHL seasons over and Stanley Cup hopes ended, the two players from Nova Scotia will aim to finish the season by winning a gold medal at the world championship.

Canada is scheduled to begin the tournament on Saturday against Slovenia.
