Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey indicated that even if the team`s playoff run had continued, his recent knee injury likely would have kept him off the ice.
Speaking at the Jets` end-of-season media availability on Tuesday, Morrissey provided an update on the left knee injury he suffered. He confirmed the injury does not require surgery but stated he would probably have been unavailable for the rest of the postseason.
“I pretty much knew immediately that I was injured, and I definitely felt something, so it was just frustrating,” Morrissey commented regarding the moment he sustained the injury.
Morrissey left Saturday`s game late in the second period after a collision with Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen, who appeared to land awkwardly on the Jets` alternate captain`s left leg.
The team`s top blue-liner faced various challenges and injuries throughout the season.
“Between getting sick during the Four Nations tournament, getting injured in Game 7 of the first round, and then suffering a fluke injury in Game 6 of the second round, this year has been really frustrating because these things kept happening,” he explained.
“You can dwell on it or feel unlucky or whatever, but it is what it is. You just have to get back to work, keep improving, get ready for next season, and be prepared for those opportunities when they come around again,” he added, focusing on his recovery and preparation for the next campaign.
Morrissey also disclosed that his absence from Game 1 against Dallas was due to being in concussion protocol after taking a hit during the Jets` Game 7 victory over the Blues in the first round.
