Movsar Evloev Signals Readiness for Alexander Volkanovski Title Fight
Undefeated featherweight contender Movsar Evloev expresses strong confidence that his next challenge will be for the UFC featherweight championship against Alexander Volkanovski. He has already initiated his training camp for the highly anticipated title fight.
Evloev recently made a triumphant return to the octagon after a prolonged injury layoff, securing a victory over Lerone Murphy at UFC London. In that bout, the Russian notably deviated from his customary wrestling-heavy approach, engaging in a more striking-focused slugfest, a move perceived by some as an effort to impress the matchmakers.
Despite Evloev's impressive performance and his standing as a top contender, UFC President Dana White did not explicitly confirm him as the next challenger for the featherweight title following the London event. This silence has opened the door for other fighters, such as the No. 6 ranked Jean Silva, who has publicly criticized Evloev's recent showing as insufficiently entertaining to warrant a title shot and has even suggested he himself should face Volkanovski.
However, Alexander "The Great" Volkanovski has consistently maintained his stance on fighting only top-tier, deserving contenders. The champion has expressed readiness to face Evloev, viewing it as an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to neutralize the formidable Russian wrestling style.
Evloev Commences Training with Title Aspirations
In a recent interview, Movsar Evloev shared his post-fight plans following his win over Lerone Murphy. After a period of recovery at home, he is now heading back to American Top Team (ATT) to focus on training specifically for his upcoming fight. The 32-year-old contender articulated his aspirations:
“We will prepare, Inshallah, for the title [fight]. It seems everything suggests that I will finally fight for the title next. Inshallah. It’s a very important stage in my career, and I want to make it so that later I don’t regret anything.”
Alexander Volkanovski successfully reclaimed the featherweight title at UFC 314 last year and made the first defense of his second reign earlier this year at UFC 325, where he dominated Diego Lopes to secure another unanimous decision victory. Following that bout, the Australian champion signed a new UFC contract. If negotiations proceed smoothly, fans could anticipate a highly anticipated showdown between Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev in the latter half of 2026.
