Anderson Silva "Happy" for Islam Makhachev to Potentially Break His UFC Win Record
UFC icon Anderson Silva has openly stated that he would be pleased to see Islam Makhachev surpass his impressive record of 16 consecutive victories within the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Islam Makhachev is currently lauded as one of the premier fighters in mixed martial arts, with many considering him a strong contender for the greatest of all time. Despite already achieving significant feats in his career, fans are keenly awaiting what the 34-year-old will accomplish, especially if he explores the 170-pound division.
Makhachev has established himself as a dominant and exceptionally well-rounded champion. If he secures a win in his next bout, he will become the first fighter in UFC history to achieve 17 consecutive victories, thereby breaking the remarkable record previously held by Anderson Silva.
In a recent interview, Anderson Silva shared his perspective on Islam Makhachev's rise to prominence and also commented on his current level of interest in the sport of MMA.
Anderson Silva on Record-Breaking Achievements
"Everything is possible," Silva commented. "I would be happy if someone broke this record. And in the future, the new generation will break this record again and again – it's a good challenge for everyone involved."
He elaborated, "I don't believe fighters actively think, 'Oh, I'm going to break this record.' I think people just do their job, and then suddenly realize, 'Oh my God! Really? Yes, you broke the record!' It’s a great feeling of surprise and accomplishment."
Silva also reflected on his own engagement with the sport: "I spent my entire life watching MMA – as a student, an opponent, always looking to improve my movements. But now, for myself, I don't watch it anymore... Once I concluded my career in MMA, I stopped watching because I no longer need to study. I don't fight MMA anymore. When I started my career in MMA years ago, I was constantly studying fights every single day. Now, I'm done with that."
Indeed, fans could soon witness a monumental moment unfold at the highest echelons of mixed martial arts.
