Michael Page Targets Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington

Sports news » Michael Page Targets Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington

Michael Page is aiming for a fight with either of the top welterweight contenders in his upcoming UFC match.

Following his successful debut in the middleweight division at UFC Saudi Arabia, where he defeated Shara Magomedov, handing him his first professional loss with a unanimous decision victory, “MVP” has expressed his desire to return to welterweight despite speculation about his potential in the 185-pound division.

Page has named Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington as his preferred opponents.

“Perhaps my last performance made some people hesitant, as it`s been quiet,” Page commented at a UFC London fan event. “There are many potential opponents: I believe a fight with Usman would be exciting. And for some reason, I really want to punch Colby Covington in the face. There are fighters available, and I’m waiting for their response to my challenge.”

Since joining the UFC, Page has a record of 2 wins and 1 loss, including a victory over Kevin Holland at UFC 299 in April. His sole defeat was a close contest against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 303 two months later.

If a fight with Covington materializes, Page hopes to replicate his memorable knockout of Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 in July 2016, a fight that marked the end of Santos’ career.

“I’m hoping to land another jumping knee to the face,” Page stated. “You all saw how effective that was, so I’m aiming for a similar outcome…

“[My goal is] two more significant fights this year. If I can fight Colby and then face another opponent ranked in the top 10 or top 5, it would be a very successful year.”
