Mewgenics Makes Strides Towards Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 Release

Sports news » Mewgenics Makes Strides Towards Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 Release

The console versions of Mewgenics are showing significant progress, with recent demonstrations of the game running on both Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. These glimpses strongly suggest that the acclaimed roguelike from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel will soon be available on these platforms.

Edmund McMillen, the game’s co-creator, shared a video showcasing Mewgenics running on the upcoming Switch 2, a platform he had previously identified as a target for the game. The console’s portable nature and potential Joy-Con 2 mouse mode capabilities could offer a distinctive gameplay experience. Shortly thereafter, Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis confirmed the PlayStation 5 port with a video of his own.

While no detailed official announcements have been made regarding these ports, it is anticipated that Mewgenics will also eventually make its way to Xbox. The developers’ overarching goal appears to be a release across all major gaming platforms, so it is likely a matter of time before the game arrives on Microsoft’s console as well.

Meanwhile, the PC version of Mewgenics continues to receive regular updates, laying the groundwork for its console counterparts. The game itself is a masterful, expansive, and highly entertaining roguelike. Players breed and send teams of cats on adventures, uncovering surprising synergies, abilities, and situations. Its demanding yet rewarding gameplay generates unique narratives with each playthrough, continually challenging players to devise new strategies for success.

It’s a demanding game, especially from the second half of the second act, but even when its challenges are at their most frustrating, when runs start to get longer and denser because a false step can be what separates you from the most miserable of defeats; even then, Mewgenics never stops telling stories, generating, with its myriad of rules strictly formed by numbers and keywords, narratives where over time the grace lies in finding ways to tip the balance in your favor.
