Meridiem will be publishing the physical edition of Tavern Talk for Nintendo Switch on October 14th. This comes two years after the visual novel’s initial release on PC and Switch.
Developed by German studio Gentle Troll, Tavern Talk puts players in the role of a tavern keeper in a magical realm. This unique perspective allows players to experience the stories and challenges of various fantasy-medieval characters seeking solace and conversation at the bar. Building relationships with customers is crucial not only for the success of the establishment but also for influencing the fate of those who visit.
Players will be able to prepare drinks for their patrons, carefully considering the attributes required by each character. The game encourages players to get attached to certain characters, which can lead to difficult decisions when it comes to suggesting quests from the announcement board.
Tavern Talk โ A Cozy Visual Novel Game, as it’s fully titled, first gained traction in late 2023 through a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over โฌ156,000 against an initial goal of โฌ20,000. The game’s appeal, a blend of visual novel mechanics reminiscent of Coffee Talk with a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired universe, captured the attention of many backers. After a positive reception to its demo during Steam Next Fest in June 2024, Tavern Talk was released on Steam and the Nintendo Switch eShop. The game has since received updates, including the addition of French language support on May 28th.
The physical release will be the Complete Edition, which includes the Pirate Palooza and Tempest Tantrum expansions directly on the Switch cartridge, eliminating the need for additional downloads. Meridiem will offer two versions for those interested in the physical edition: the Limited Edition, which includes the game and a physical instruction manual, and the Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition will feature a special box, a lore book, a CD of the original soundtrack, and other exclusive extras.
Fans of Tavern Talk may also be looking forward to Gentle Troll Entertainment’s next project, Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker. This prequel, which also had a successful Kickstarter campaign that sold out in under an hour, was first revealed at the Women-Led Games showcase in 2025. While a release date is yet to be announced, it has a Steam page and a trailer, suggesting another cozy visual novel experience. Dreamwalker is set 36 years before the events of Tavern Talk and will explore the world of taverns, customer interactions, quest-giving, and drink preparation, with dreams as a central new mechanic. It is slated for release on Steam and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
