McCabe Returns for Game 1 as Maple Leafs Lineup Takes Shape

Sports news » McCabe Returns for Game 1 as Maple Leafs Lineup Takes Shape

The Toronto Maple Leafs are entering the playoffs in strong form and with key players healthy.

Defenseman Jake McCabe, known for his shutdown abilities, will be in the lineup for the Maple Leafs` home game against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. This comes after an 18-day recovery period from an upper-body injury he sustained on April 2nd.

“Yeah, pumped. I’m ready to rock,” McCabe confirmed on Saturday, expressing his eagerness to return.

There`s also encouraging news regarding Oliver Ekman-Larsson. He participated in a full practice with the team, skating alongside his defensive partner, Simon Benoit.

The Maple Leafs are evaluating Ekman-Larsson`s condition after this practice session to ensure he`s ready to play, as he is also recovering from an upper-body injury.

The return of McCabe and potentially Ekman-Larsson, who are both top defensemen for Toronto, would be a significant boost to the team.

Coach Craig Berube commented on their importance: “They’ve been obviously very good D for us this year. Both good defenders. Penalty kill, power play — they contribute in all key areas. And they are experienced defenders.”

Should Ekman-Larsson not be cleared to play immediately, Philippe Myers (right-shot) and Dakota Mermis (left-shot) are prepared to step into the lineup.
