Max Holloway often jokes about the Hawaiian-like reception he gets in Las Vegas. Now, South Korea might become his tenth favorite place after the incredible welcome he received upon arriving on Sunday.
The former UFC featherweight champion was met at the airport by his former opponent, “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung, and hundreds of excited fans eager to see him.
Holloway smiled at the loud cheers from the crowd as he stepped off the plane. He is expected to train with “The Korean Zombie” during his stay in the country.
Holloway has consistently praised “The Korean Zombie,” both before and after their 2023 fight, which was the final match of Jung’s legendary career.
“This guy is a true legend,” Holloway said after their fight. “He’s called Korean Zombie for a reason. He’s a myth, a legend.”
Although Jung has retired from fighting, he is actively promoting his Z Fight Night series in South Korea. Holloway, meanwhile, is preparing to move to the lightweight division after his featherweight loss to Ilia Topuria last October.
Holloway`s next opponent is still undecided, but there are rumors of a potential fight with Dustin Poirier later this year. Poirier has announced his intention to retire after his next fight, and a third match against Holloway could be a perfect farewell to the sport.
Before any future plans materialize, Holloway will spend time in South Korea, where he has clearly received a very warm reception.
