The Toronto Maple Leafs secured a significant win against the Florida Panthers, but this victory may have come at a price.
During the game, two key players, defenseman Jake McCabe and forward David Kampf, had to leave the ice due to injuries sustained at different moments.
The Maple Leafs organization announced that Kampf would not be returning to the game because of an upper-body injury.
Towards the end of the game, with just under two minutes remaining, McCabe was checked into the boards. He did not participate in the final 1 minute and 10 seconds as the team worked to maintain their 3-2 lead.
Speaking to reporters post-game, head coach Craig Berube stated that he did not have any immediate updates regarding the condition of either McCabe or Kampf.
The exact moment and nature of Kampf`s injury were not immediately apparent, but the forward was absent from the team for the entirety of the third period.
This season, the 30-year-old Kampf has accumulated five goals and 13 points over 58 games. He previously missed 12 games due to a lower-body injury earlier in the season.
McCabe`s stats for the season include two goals and 23 points in 66 games. He has been playing an average of 21 minutes and 31 seconds of ice time per game, which is a career-high for him.
