A significant featherweight bout is scheduled to headline the next Noche UFC event in San Antonio. Diego Lopes and Jean Silva have agreed to meet in a five-round main event on September 13th.
UFC CEO Dana White officially announced this matchup on Tuesday evening.
The fight features a former title challenger in Lopes against one of the division`s most rapidly ascending talents, Silva. Lopes will be looking to rebound from his recent title loss to Alexander Volkanovski, while Silva aims to extend his impressive undefeated streak of five consecutive wins since joining the UFC.
Before his bid for the featherweight championship, Lopes had amassed five straight victories, including notable wins over seasoned contenders such as Brian Ortega, Dan Ige, and Sodiq Yusuff. Despite falling short in the title bout, Lopes remains recognized as one of the top-ranked fighters in the 145-pound weight class globally.
On the other side, the 28-year-old Silva, representing the Fighting Nerds team, has made a significant impact with his electrifying performances since debuting in the UFC. His most recent dominant performance saw him submit Bryce Mitchell with a vicious ninja choke at UFC 314 in April.
Silva currently holds a perfect 5-0 record within the UFC, with every single one of those victories coming by way of a finish, either knockout or submission.
He will attempt to maintain his flawless record when he faces Lopes in September. A victory in this main event could potentially position him as a strong contender for a future title shot.
The upcoming Noche UFC card is set for San Antonio, and fans can anticipate further fight announcements to be added to the event roster in the coming weeks.
