As the National Hockey League`s contract buyout window nears its conclusion, two forwards have reportedly been placed on waivers.
Joe Veleno and Conor Sheary were reportedly waived, according to Elliotte Friedman on Sunday.
Sheary, of the Tampa Bay Lightning, had one season remaining on his contract with a $2 million salary cap hit. The 33-year-old participated in only five games during the most recent season. His waiver placement is a strategic move by Tampa Bay to create more salary cap space.
Veleno also had one year left on his contract, which was a two-year, $4.55 million deal signed during the previous off-season. He was recently acquired by the Seattle Kraken from the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade that sent Andre Burakovsky to Chicago.
Last season, split between the Detroit Red Wings and the Blackhawks, Veleno recorded eight goals and 17 points across 74 games.
