Khalil Rountree Jr. has spoken out after his main event fight at UFC Kansas City against Jamahal Hill was cancelled. Rountree shared his reaction to the change.
According to Rountree, the UFC informed him that Jamahal Hill is injured and unable to compete in Kansas City on April 26th. This means Rountree is currently without a fight, and the Hill matchup will be postponed to a later date, though when is uncertain.
The UFC has announced a new main event for the Kansas City event: a welterweight bout between Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates.
Rountree, who is ranked No. 7 in the light heavyweight division, stated he wasn`t given specific details about Hill`s injury. He only knows the UFC said Hill had to withdraw due to an injury and needs recovery time, leading to the fight postponement.
Rountree hopes the fight with Hill will be rescheduled soon, as he is eager for this particular matchup.
Hill was aiming for his second fight of 2025, having last fought in January at UFC 311, where he lost to Jiri Prochazka.
Rountree and Hill were previously scheduled to fight at UFC 303 in June, but Rountree had to pull out due to a suspension. Rountree then fought Alex Pereira for the light heavyweight title at UFC 307 in October.
This news is a setback for Rountree’s 2025 goals, as he intended to fight three times this year. He hopes the Hill fight can be rearranged quickly as he is focused on fighting Jamahal.
“I really want this fight to happen,” Rountree said. “I think it’s a great matchup for me and this is the fight that I want. So hopefully this injury heals up quick, because I want to stay focused on fighting Jamahal.”
