Joe Pyfer has been forced to pull out of the UFC Mexico event at the last minute.
On Saturday, UFC officials announced that Pyfer had to withdraw from his main card fight against Kelvin Gastelum because of an illness. As a result, the flyweight match between Edgar Chairez and CJ Vergara has been moved up from the preliminary card to the main card, according to UFC.com.
Both Pyfer and Gastelum were looking to compete for the first time in 2025 after recovering from losses in their previous fights in June. At UFC 303, Pyfer achieved a first-round knockout victory over Marc-Andre Barriault, while Gastelum secured a decision win against Daniel Rodriguez at a Fight Night event in Saudi Arabia.
It is currently unknown if the fight between Pyfer and Gastelum will be rescheduled for a future event or if they will be matched up with different opponents.
UFC Mexico`s main event remains a flyweight contender fight featuring Brandon Moreno, a former two-time champion, and Steve Erceg, a recent title challenger. The event will proceed with a total of 12 fights.
