Mark Scheifele, a prominent forward for the Winnipeg Jets, is experiencing a profound loss following the unexpected death of his father, Brad Scheifele, on Friday evening.
The sad news was publicly confirmed by Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff while addressing reporters in Dallas on Saturday.
In a show of support, Head coach Scott Arniel returned to the team`s hotel to be with Mark Scheifele.
Captain Adam Lowry shared heartfelt memories of Brad Scheifele, particularly recalling his vibrant presence on past father-son trips. Lowry emphasized Brad`s exceptional energy and his genuine zest for life, qualities that he noted were clearly inherited by Mark. He described Brad as a “genuinely happy person” and conveyed the team`s sense of devastation over this “terrible loss.”
Lowry extended the organization`s deepest sympathies to Brad`s wife, Mary Lou, their children Janelle, Kyle, and Mark, and all members of the Scheifele family, stating how difficult it was to articulate the depth of sorrow everyone felt for Mark and his loved ones.
General manager Cheveldayoff also mentioned that, given the circumstances, it was premature to determine if Mark Scheifele would participate in Game 6 against the Stars.
