Following his recent victory and subsequent callout of Bryce Mitchell, the UFC quickly scheduled their fight for April 12. Both fighters were then featured at a press conference in early March to promote their upcoming match. During the press event, Silva chose to playfully address Mitchell`s flat Earth beliefs with a globe, rather than commenting on Mitchell`s controversial statements.
Silva stated to MMA Fighting that the fight has become highly anticipated because of his promotion efforts. He emphasized his role in generating excitement, comparing it to the promotional style of Conor McGregor, and expressed his genuine enjoyment of this aspect of the fight game. He also hinted at even greater promotional efforts in the future.
Silva noted that Mitchell`s controversial remarks have inadvertently garnered him support, even among American fans. He humorously mentioned celebrating his victory and bonus with a “hillbilly party,” contrasting it with a recent Armenian celebration he attended.
Silva acknowledged social media comments urging him to defeat Mitchell due to his controversial statements, even prior to Silva`s win against Melsik Baghdasaryan. However, Silva clarified that he harbors no animosity towards Mitchell.
Silva emphasized that he approaches the fight without hatred, stating he wishes Mitchell well and anticipates his own victory. He views Mitchell as someone who will contribute to his success, rather than an enemy. Silva contrasted his approach to combat with a more modern perspective, where opponents can concede defeat. He confidently predicted Mitchell will quit during their fight and that he will not be unnecessarily aggressive afterward. After the press conference, Mitchell made unusual social media posts, claiming Silva was sending “demons” in his dreams. Silva remained unfazed by these comments.
